Onboarding

You Never Get a Second Chance to Make a First Impression

Mission Statement

The mission of the Onboarding Team is to ensure that DOM provides organizational socialization or onboarding so that new hires are emotionally, physically, and professionally integrated into the culture, values and operations of the organization.

In the Department of Medicine, as we strive to put People First, our goal is to plan and work toward providing a comprehensive and thoughtful onboarding experience for each person who joins our team.

Great onboarding is a benefit to the new employee, manager, and the organization as it:

  • Creates an environment in which new hires feel comfortable and welcome.
  • Provide new hires with the resources they need to transition into their new role.
  • Sets the new hire up for success and job satisfaction.
  • Foster growth and retention within the organization.

Remember, onboarding is not just the first day, nor is it a moment of time. Onboarding is a process that should be tailored to every individual and continue until the staff member is comfortable in their role and able to work as independently as needed. The quicker and more widely you can integrate an employee into the company culture and ways of working, the easier they’ll find their feet and get down to contributing to the team success. The Onboarding Committee of People First has created tools and guidance documents to support you in providing effective onboarding for your new employee.

Please find important tools in the boxes to the right which will help you to create a thorough onboarding experience for your new hire and support you through the process.
